Nuria Iso<\/strong> is the CEO of Nautilus Experiencias Digitales<\/a><\/strong>. She has a degree in Marketing and Public Relations, but she has spent the last 15 years working in programming.<\/p>\n

Nautilus Experiencias Digitales<\/strong> is a company from Navarra that opened in March 2020, just one week before the world went into lockdown. The company focuses on virtual reality, content creation and above all, training on virtual reality. The company also forms part of CEIN’s Innovation Nursery and the DIGITECH Scale Up<\/a> and METAtalent<\/a> programmes.<\/p>\n

Two weeks ago, AMEDNA<\/a> presented them with the 2022 Navarra Entrepreneur of the Year<\/a> award. “I am proud to serve as a reference point for other people, and above all for other women<\/strong>,” Iso says. “It’s something that I didn’t realise I was doing, and when they presented me with the award, I realised that actually yes, I had been going against the flow. I’ve always done whatever I enjoyed, without thinking about my gender. I’m happy to be able to help others and it fills me with pride to think that my efforts have been admired by others<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n

What does it mean to be a female entrepreneur?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Personally, I’d never considered that it could have any downsides. I’ve always done what I wanted, what I’ve enjoyed, what’s been fulfilling for me. Starting my own business is something I’d wanted to do my whole life<\/strong>, as I’ve always wanted to do things that I couldn’t have done within other companies, I wanted to break new ground. Being a woman didn’t affect me at all, until now. Now it’s having an impact, but in a good way, because we’re being supported and for that I’m truly grateful. If you think about it, it makes sense, because there aren’t many of us. When it comes to business, I’ve noticed that there are few other women around me. But that’s just made me feel even more motivated.<\/p>\n

Do we need more women in business so as to encourage others?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To be honest, yes. Or at least we need more visibility. There are lots of women fighting to launch their projects and we need to start sharing these with other women and supporting one another<\/strong>. There are some amazing women-led projects out there. CEIN is an example of that: you walk down their corridors and you see lots of women.<\/p>\n

Which projects have been an important part of your life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first company we started was In The Middle<\/em><\/strong>, in 2013. We worked in marketing and events. We set ourselves the task of learning about new technologies and not being scared of the challenges. We’ve always liked doing what no one else was able to do. It gave us a foundation, plus the strength and knowledge that has really allowed us to move into any sector we wanted. This project taught us about virtual reality, but we found that we weren’t entirely happy in that field. We therefore decided to change tack and start again. Sometimes, that’s scarier than the business itself. We closed the doors, lost our customers and decided to try and start a business in something that genuinely excited us: VR Magister<\/em><\/strong>. Our number of partners grew and we were joined by Beatriz Iso, who is in charge of content and a very important piece of the jigsaw. We know about the programming, but that’s worth nothing without content. And then we truly had to take the plunge: it was a huge risk, madness really. It was during the pandemic that I decided to break away from what I’d been doing before. I wasn’t sure I’d done the right thing, but it turned out that I had. I’m now doing something that excites me for eight hours a day (sometimes more), and I feel like I’m providing something good for society and for the future, for the next generation. It’s turned out unique and special and all the efforts I’ve put in and have yet to put in are well worth it.<\/p>\n

What’s happening with your new projects, like VR Magister?<\/strong><\/p>\n

What we’re now trying to do is make all our projects about virtual reality. We set up Nautilus to create an informative platform with virtual reality content<\/strong>. We realised that the glasses have a lot of strong points, but there was a lot of content to develop.<\/p>\n

Virtual reality can be incredibly beneficial for education<\/strong>, but there isn’t enough suitable content for every training centre. In fact, there is an almost unlimited supply of content waiting to be developed and it needs to be done now<\/strong>. Centres are beginning to get these devices and they’ll be useless if they don’t have suitable educational content to go with them. So, we started VR Magister<\/strong><\/a>: a virtual reality content platform for training centres<\/strong>. Our main aim was to introduce education centres to virtual reality as transversally as possible<\/strong>. We’ve therefore developed two specific kinds of software: SoftSkills<\/strong>, which provides soft skills training in three areas: job interviews (in Spanish and English), public speaking and the elevator pitch. Whatever you’ve studied, you need to be able to present yourself in a job interview. You need to know how to define concepts clearly and accurately, and you need to know how to speak in public, because sooner or later, you’re going to have to. The other idea we’ve developed is our Content Creator<\/strong>. The aim is for teachers to be able to create their own content based on the 360\u00ba images we provide and those available on the market, at very competitive prices, using them to create content like virtual tours or competitions. The good thing is that they can do more than just create content adapted to their needs. Education has endless professional opportunities. They can also teach their students about what virtual reality is and how to create content for these devices. It’s very interesting to record live content, the way in which you can put cameras in unexpected places. Being able to see the world from other perspectives is priceless<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

How has CEIN helped you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I got to know CEIN through the 2019 Entrepreneur Boost<\/a><\/strong> programme. I was in Mallorca at the time, but the programme really interested me because they helped you get your business off the ground. I came from another country, but we hadn’t really finished working, growing; we hadn’t really created something that we could consider a fully blown company. This programme seemed like it could give us what we’d been missing the first time around, so we signed up. CEIN liked our project, which began as virtual reality in general. They accepted us, trained us and we saw that we’d have to go back to Navarra. We needed training, guidance and funding.<\/p>\n

I’ve learned so much since then: they are providing me with continuous, very interesting training, so I’m able to make way better progress than I would have done had I not been working with CEIN<\/strong>. I’m so glad they welcomed our company into the Company Nursery<\/a><\/strong> because seeing what other companies have been doing and the collaborations between us have been so worth it. It has really added a lot, and means that this tough process of starting a business has been much warmer and friendlier. It also makes us more likely to continue to succeed.<\/p>\n\n
